About Staydoc

Staydoc is a set of free PDF tools that run in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and never uploaded.

Why Staydoc exists

Most online PDF tools ask you to upload your documents first. Bank statements, ID cards, contracts and medical reports end up on someone else's computer, even if only for an hour, and you have to take their word for what happens to them there.

Staydoc does the same everyday jobs without that step. Merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing, redacting and reading scans all happen inside your browser, on your own device. There is nothing to take on trust, because your files have nowhere else to go.

How it works

  • The site is only static files. Its server sends pages and tools, and accepts no uploads.
  • Each tool downloads its engine from this site, the way the page itself is downloaded, and runs it on your device: open-source engines such as pdf-lib, PDF.js, qpdf, Tesseract for reading scans and LibreOffice for Office files.
  • The result is made in your browser's memory and saved to your device by your browser.
  • Once a page has loaded, the tools keep working with your internet connection turned off. You can also install Staydoc as an app.

Don't take our word for it: the privacy proof shows how to check it yourself in a minute, and what our automated tests record for each release.

What we promise

  • No uploads. Your files are processed on your device, by every tool.
  • No ads and no trackers. No analytics, no advertising and no code from other sites.
  • No account needed. Every tool works without signing in.
  • Free. The tools on this site are free to use.
  • Honest limits. Conversion and text recognition are approximate, and each tool says what it can and can't do. Check important results before you rely on them.

Who makes it

Staydoc is an independent, personal project, built and run from India. It isn't part of a larger company, and it makes no money from advertising or from your data.

It is built on open-source software, and we are grateful to the people who write and maintain it.
