How it works
- 1
Choose a PDF. Its text is read on this device.
- 2
Click a line on the page, then type the new words or delete the line.
- 3
Save the edited PDF.
Files and limits
- Accepts
- Files
- One file
- Size
- 200 MB per file (50 MB per file on phones, tablets and low-memory computers)
Good to know
- Changed lines use Helvetica, Times or Courier, whichever is closest to the original font, at the same size and colour.
- New text uses Latin letters, numbers and common symbols. Other scripts are not supported yet.
- Longer text isn't wrapped onto a new line, so it can run into what comes after it.
- Scanned pages, and text inside some logos and charts, can't be edited.
- Editing a digitally signed PDF makes its signature invalid.
Why it's private
Processed in your browser
The tool runs on your device. There is no upload step and no server that receives your files.
Works offline
Wait for Offline ready before disconnecting. OCR and Office conversion also need their engines saved on this device.
No ads or trackers
Tool pages load no ads, no analytics scripts and no third-party code.
Questions
Is the old text really gone?
Yes. The words are taken out of the page itself, not hidden under a white box, so they can't be selected, copied or found by searching the page. The same words elsewhere in the file, such as in bookmarks or the document's title, are not changed.
Why can a changed line look a little different?
PDFs usually carry only the letters they already use from each font, so new words may need letters the file does not have. Changed lines are drawn in the closest standard font instead, at the same size, position and colour.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
No. A scanned page is a picture of the paper, with no words to change. Text that a scanner's search layer adds is invisible, so it is not edited either.
Can I add new text or images?
Not in this tool. To put the same words or a logo on every page, use Add watermark.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
Yes. Enter the file's password when asked; it is used on this device only. The new file is not password-protected.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser does the work on this device, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Nothing is sent to a server.
